IKEA completes solar farm on top of St. Louis store

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Tuesday IKEA completed its solar farm on top of its new store in St. Louis. The store is slate to opens on September 30th.

In today’s announcement IKEA stated the solar farm is the largest of its kind in the state of Missouri, with over 4,000 panels that will provide nearly 2 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy to the store. The solar farm will reduce the facilities carbon foot print by 1,227 tons of carbon monoxide, which is the equivalent of 258 cars emissions for a year.

IKEA is committed to using renewal energy and has solar presence at nearly 90-perzcetn of its stores in the U.S. The company has a goal of being energy independent by 2020, with the construction of more solar farms, and wind turbines to be around the globe.
