ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - St. Louis city police are looking for two men suspected of robbing a convenience store and shooting the employee in the jaw and chest Monday night. Our news crews talked with residents and business owners in the area who say the shooting raises some serious concerns. The shooting happen in the 5400 block of South Grand. The employee was behind the counter when suspect pulled out a gun and open fire.
Police released surveillance pictures after the robbery Monday night around 9:30 p.m. Officers say the suspects are in their late teens or early twenties. The first suspect dressed in white, fired shots at the worker hitting him in the jaw and torso. After shooting him, the second suspect took money from the register and cigarettes. Both suspects then left the business. The store has been closed for business since the robbery. Residents in the area say the store just opened last week and the news is heart breaking. "It's a tragedy for someone who is trying to start their business to get robbed at gunpoint and have not had the chance to make their business begin," said Erica Tate.
Lisa Demsko has lived in South St. Louis for more than 44 years and owns a business in the area . Demsko says the shooting raises serious concerns for other business owners. "We know what time we go, we have a lock on the door." If we don't know a person and we are here alone, we just don't let them in," said Demsko.
An investigation is ongoing .
Police say anyone who recognizes the men in images should contact police .
The victim remains in critical but stable condition.
