ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department rolled out a new bicycle unit Thursday to get closer to the communities it serves.

The new bicycle team launched in Fairground Park on Thursday afternoon; they’re dedicated to community policing.

The two officers will ride bicycles in all 79 St. Louis neighborhoods. They will not answer radio calls, but will meet face-to-face with residents to get to know them and appear at neighborhood events.
