Several Granite City students die before school year starts

GRANITE CITY, IL (KTVI) - There will be more on their minds than their classes when students in the Granite City school district return to school this month. Two current students and two former students have died in the past two and a half months.

Senior Abbey McElroy was killed in a car accident. Incoming freshman Toney Grahm died June 17th after collapsing during a voluntary preseason football practice. 2014 graduate Zachary Boland died in a forklift accident on June 15th. 2013 graduate Zack Kiboret and nephew of the superintendent also died
the tragic deaths have hit school officials and students hard.

A couple of the students were members of Granite City High School's marching band. The superintendent tells me that band was like family."

Funeral services for senior Abby Mcelroy will be held Saturday.
