EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) – The East St. Louis City Manager has canceled layoffs for eight of the city’s police officers. Alvin Parks says the city is negotiating with the officer’s union to find an alternative solution to layoffs.

The cuts were announced earlier this month as the city struggles with shrinking revenue and a massive budget deficit.

Six city employees have already been laid off.
