ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Gusty northwest winds were bringing a Fall feel back to St. Louis Saturday morning. Runners taking part in the Run for the Hills 5k in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood of south St. Louis enjoyed the cooler temperatures.  Many outdoor festivals are taking place this weekend and organizers hope the cool down and sunshine will swell the crowds that attend.

But the gusty winds were a big problem for one of the weekend's most popular events. Friday evening, south winds ahead an approaching cold front were too strong to put up the hot air balloons at the annual Great Forest Park Balloon Glow, leaving thousands of people disappointed and event organizers scrambling to entertain the gathered crowds. In the end, the evening’s show was limited to balloon operators firing up their hot-air burners to light up the night.

The Great Forest Park Balloon Race is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, The continued windy conditions may put that in jeopardy also.  Events surrounding the race begin at Noon, Saturday, Sept. 19, in Forest Park.
