ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – In downtown St. Louis Monday, college students protested the cost of getting a college education and immigrant students say they were being discriminated against on tuition cost. Students and community groups gathered outside the St. Louis Community College administration offices on South Broadway to call for an end to discriminatory tuition rates.
The demonstrators blame the Missouri legislature for passing House Bill 3 which instructs public colleges and universities to charge immigrant students international rates. Even though it is not law ye, some colleges and universities have implemented the changes. Immigrant student say they are being charged double and triple tuition the cost of in state tuition, even though they and their families live, work and pay taxes in Missouri.
