UPDATED with statement from Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez was removed from his start against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday at Busch Stadium after only seven pitches.

The right-hander, seeking his 15th win on the season as the team closes in on a possible division title, was escorted into the dugout by team trainers and was visibly concerned. There was no immediate word on the nature of any specific injury.

Tyler Lyons came in to retire the side.

The team announced that Martinez left the game with right shoulder tightness and would be re-evaluated Saturday.
