ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - St. Louis homicide detectives busy again after a 19-year-old was shot and killed in north St. Louis.

According to Schron Jackson, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the murder happened around 9 a.m. on Marcus Avenue near Northland. Investigators said people in the area heard several shots fired. They came out to see a young man shot in the street. The victim, identified as Shannon Welch, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said nine shots fired. Investigators at the scene said they found a firearm underneath Welch's body.

Loved ones of the victims raced to the area. They were very emotional -- many crying and upset. Some tried to get to the body, but police had to hold them back.

Detectives canvassed the neighborhood talking to people and searching for clues. However, police have no suspects.
