SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis County police, animal control and The Humane Society of Missouri are in South St. Louis County conducting an animal rescue. Authorities were called to a home on Spring Water Drive for a report of over 100 cats being kept in a home.
The cats were taken to the triage area of the Humane Society, were they're being examined and given medicine and food. Most of the cats are suffering from upper respiratory problems.
Investigators who went into the home had protective suits on, say the inside was filthy with cat urine and feces spread throughout the house. At least 40 cats were found on one couch. Each cat was put in a crate and placed in human society vans. Neighbors had been complaining about the terrible smell coming from the home for a couple of years. Officials say an older couple who lives at the home just got in over their heads in taking care of the animals. Most of the cats were of normal body weight. One dead kitten was found in the home.
