COLUMBIA, MO (KTVI)- The University of Missouri announced that starting quarterback Maty Mauk and Offensive Lineman Malik Cuellar have been suspended for “disciplinary reasons relating to violation of team policies,” meaning at minimum, they would both miss Saturday’s home game against South Carolina.

A statement released Tuesday night did not describe the nature of the violation, but said the junior student-athletes’ status would be evaluated following the game against the Gamecocks.

Mauk has been at the helm of a Mizzou offense which has struggled with running back injuries and inexperience at the wide receiver position en route to a 3-1 record after Saturday night’s loss against Kentucky. His suspension would appear to elevate true freshman Drew Lock into the starting QB role.

Lock’s performance in fall training camp earned him the number 2 spot on the depth chart despite the widespread belief going into camp that he’d redshirt this season. The highly touted freshman has earned praise for his poise in the pocket and a rocket arm in limited action this season.
