Belleville man charged with cruelty after taping dog’s mouth shut

BELLEVILLE, IL – A St. Clair County man has been charged with cruelty to animals after taping a dog’s mouth shut.

Police say Travis Young of Belleville took a black Labrador retriever named Sparky and duct-taped the dog’s muzzle shut. This deprived the dog of food and water.

The charge of cruel treatment is a class A misdemeanor. His bond is set at $5,000.
