EAST ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Kids in the East St. Louis 189 School District showed up for a party hosted by city hall. The dance it's all because teachers have been on strike since October 1st and with the strike came canceled classes, games and events including homecoming.

Mayor Emeka Jackson-Hicks says her new youth initiative kicked off Wednesday as way to connect kids with adults in the community. Teachers and parents also acted as chaperones for the dance.

FOX 2 checked with district and official's say at this point there is no movement towards a resolution.
