ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - History is being made in St. Louis today with the first-ever playoff game between the Cardinals and Cubs. Game one of the NLDS is at 5:45p.m. at Busch Stadium.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson wants fans to know they will be safe downtown.

He says there will be a noticeable increase in police officers around the city, some in uniform and others in plain clothes. There will also be an increase in marked and undercover squad cars.

All this comes just weeks after a Cardinals fan was shot and paralyzed while heading to his car after a game.

That security will extend beyond the ballpark to Washington Avenue, Laclede's Landing and other spots popular with sports fans.

Dotson also says safety in other areas around St. Louis will not suffer because of the beefed up security during the playoffs.
