Person of interest questioned in Cape Girardeau killing

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) – Cape Girardeau police are questioning a person of interest in relation to a fatal shooting.

The Southeast Missourian reports that the person being questioned is being held on unrelated charges. Meanwhile, that person is under investigation in the Oct. 6 killing of 42-year-old Howard Harris Smith Jr. of Cape Girardeau.

Smith was found dead in a yard. The Cape Girardeau County coroner ruled that he died of a gunshot.
