MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) - On Saturday hundreds of comic book collectors, artists and vendors showed up at the Sheraton Westport to take part in the 5th annual Project Comic Con event.

This years theme was focused on women creators and their contributions to the industry. Artist Emily Warren says she`s glad to be part of the new emergence of females in the comic book world. Some vendors also say they want people to explore their inner nerd.

"The male comics tend to be more hard more geared toward men and the female comics are more on the emotional side of things." Said Warren

Experts say the ownership of comics is changing. Now close to 50 percent of readers are female with the push coming from the popularity of comic book movies and TV shows.
More than 2,000 people are expected to attend. Project Comic Con runs through Sunday with a price tag of $25 to get in.
