Electrical fire closes north, southbound I-55 between Litchfield & Carlinville, Illinois

LITCHFIELD, CARLINVILLE, ILLINOIS (KTVI)- North and southbound I-55 is closed between Exit 60 (Carlinville) and Exit 52 (Litchfield). According to Illinois State Police District 18, the shutdown is due to an electrical fire on a power pole outside of the Pioneer Plant.

All traffic has been diverted.

The same length is closed on the Frontage Roads as well.

Traffic is being diverted towards IL 4 for a Northbound and Southbound re-route.

Per ISP, northbound traffic will exit at Exit 52 and turn West to travel towards Gillespie on IL-16, turn North on IL-4 towards Carlinville, and travel East back to I-55 on IL-108. Southbound traffic will exit at Exit 60 and turn West on IL-108 towards Carlinville, turn South on IL-4 towards Gillespie, and turn East to travel back to I-55 on IL-16.
