ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – It was a frightening night for a couple trying to withdraw money from an ATM in South St. Louis. The couple, a man and woman drove up to an ATM at the Fifth Third Bank on Lougborhough, when suddenly six men converged on their car.  One was armed with a handgun.

The suspect with a handgun pointed at the man and woman in the car, while another suspect tried to grab the victim`s credit card.  The victims drove away to escape and said they saw the men running through the parking lot of Loughboroug Commons. Police and security patrols are seen often at the shopping center, but people who live, shop and work in the area are on edge.

According to police sources, two suspects were taken into custody shortly after the attempted robbery.

But that attempted robbery has spurred residents of South St. Louis to seek a meeting with the St. Louis police Chief Sam Dotson over crime in the area.  The chief will be hosting a community meeting at St. Stephens Catholic Church on Wilmington at 7 pm.
