ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - The Season of Giving is upon us. And this week wraps up National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child. Local residents are encouraged to take part in these final days by putting together a shoe box of small gift items for a child in need.

The goal of Operation Christmas Child is to pack gifts of hope for children living in poverty overseas. Since 1993, 124 million shoes boxes have been packed and sent across the globe through Operation Christmas Child.

St. Louis City and County have set a goal to collect 17,000 boxes this year. Boxes collected from the area will head straight to Denver for processing. From there the boxes will be checked and then sent to Mexico in time for this Christmas.

Time is running out, so don't delay! Boxes are being receiving in this final weekend Saturday- Monday (see website for times.) Packaging instructions on what items to include in the box along with where to find the nearest drop off location can be found by going to: www.SamaritansPurse.org.
