ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Though it sounds like the weather system moving across the country this weekend may show mercy upon St. Louis, the snow and ice season is upon us. And St. Louis street crews are ready.

"This weekend is just going to be some flurries," said Deanna Venker, St. Louis Traffic Commissioner. "And ground temperature is still high."

Still St. Louis Public Works has plenty of salt on hand for the rest of the season.

"We've got about 34,000 tons of salt stocked-up at different locations around the city, so we're really prepared,” Venker said. “You never know what season might bring, but we're prepared."

Salt and equipment; that makes up the winter weather arsenal. And St. Louis is ready.

"We have about 40 trucks available on double shifts," said Venker. "More if we need them. Those are premium trucks in good shape with plows on."

And Venker reminds St. Louis drivers to make room for snow plows.

"Put some distance between you and the trucks because the plows will be down and salt will be coming out the back," she said.
