WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KTVI) – Webster Groves police say a routine 3 car crash turned into a far more serious situation when a driver slammed into a police vehicle, injuring an officer and one other person.

Police say it was just before 6:30 pm Tuesday when the Webster Groves officer stopped to help 3 people involved in a minor accident on Elm just north of Lockwood.  That’s when police say another vehicle slammed into the rear of the officer’s vehicle, pushing it into the officer and one of the people involved in the initial crash.

Webster Groves Police Capt. Stephen Spear said the driver was taken into custody.  Spear said it was too soon to say if the driver was impaired.  The investigation is continuing.

Spear said the officer suffered leg injuries.  He was transported to a hospital Tuesday night.  Spear said it was possible the officer could be released later that night.  The extent of the injuries to the other person struck was not immediately known, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
