LAMBERT AIRPORT (KTVI) – With the kickoff to the busy holiday travel season on Wednesday, some passengers are anxious about travel in the wake of the Paris attacks.

On Monday, the U.S. State Department issuing a worldwide, three-month long travel alert.

At a news conference on Tuesday, President Barack Obama encouraged Americans not to be fearful.

'We are vigilant, we take precautions but we go about our business,' he said.

At Lambert Airport, travelers are split on their feelings about the safety of travel this holiday season.

Even sisters Carol Thomas and Joyce Pettus are split.

'It`s a little scary, but it is not going to stop me,' said Thomas, traveling to St. Louis from Georgia.

Her sister has an opposite view.

'I don`t think I would want to travel, especially to Europe,' Pettus said.

Stephanie Turner, owner of Brentwood Travel, is going to Paris on Friday.

And even though she says she is not worried about heading to France, some of her customers are.

'We have had some people who have canceled or postponed, maybe that is a better word, I don`t think they are never going to go again. I think right now there is just an uncertainty so some people may have postponed their trips.' Turner said.

Creating uncertainty is the point of terrorism.

But Washington University Psychiatrist Dr. Robert Cloninger says the way to combat those kinds of fears is to shift your focus.

'You can`t let yourself become preoccupied with what you can`t control, and a terrorist act, a random act of cruelty or brutality is beyond any individual`s control so we have to pay attention to what we can control,' he said.
