BELVIDERE, Ill. (AP) _ Authorities say a man in the Boone County Jail waiting to be transferred to prison has been charged with attacking a corrections officer.

The (Rockford) Register Star reports that 39-year-old Larry C. Hall of Rockford was charged with 16 counts of aggravated battery to a corrections institution employee and one count of obstructing a correctional institution employee after allegedly attacking the officer Tuesday. Boone County sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate the reason for the alleged attack.

The officer was taken to a hospital in Belvidere where he was treated for bruised ribs and other minor injuries before he was released.

Court records show that Hall was sentenced this month to two years in prison for violating an order of protection and domestic battery.
