It was a busy Wednesday for the Cardinals, making trades, losing a player to waivers and offering contracts to arbitration eligible players.

First, the trade, Tony Cruz is now a Royal. The now former Cardinals backup catcher was traded on Wednesday  to Kansas City for 19 year old shortstop Jose Martinez. Cruz was expendable after the Redbirds signed former Reds catcher Brayan Pena on Monday. Peter Bourjos was claimed on waivers by the Phillies, ending his two year run with St. Louis. Bourjos was acquired from the Angels when the Cards sent David Freese out West. Wednesday was also the deadline to offer arbitration eligible players a contract for the 2016 season. The Cardinals did make offers to Brandon Moss, Matt Adams, Seth Maness, and record-setting closer Trevor Rosenthal. Not given offers were relief pitcher Steve Cishek and catcher Cody Stanley.
