Four injured in south city apartment fire

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Four people were injured overnight in an apartment fire in south St. Louis. The fire started around 12:45a.m. at the Sunshine Apartments on Hampton Avenue at Sunshine Drive. There was heavy fire on the second floor of the three-story building. Firefighters used ladders to rescue people from their windows on the top floor.

"To get everybody out of this building in quick time was impressive. We had heavy fire facing the east. they did another good job," said Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson.

Two people are being treated for smoke inhalation. Investigators are looking into whether a space heater may be to blame.

Metro brought in a bus to keep residents warm at the scene.
