DE SOTO, MO (KTVI)-A man and woman from De Soto, MO, have been arrested and charged for assaulting a Missouri State Trooper.

Very early Friday, a state trooper tried to pull the suspects over north of Potosi, MO, in Washington County. That’s when investigators say they fired on the officer and sped away.  A bullet shattered the windshield of the cruiser and shards of glass hit the trooper’s eyes.

Officers traced the car to its owner, who said the car had been loaned to the suspects.

Christian and Merseal were arrested late Friday morning in Jefferson County. They are being held at the Washington County Jail.
