ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Barring an unforeseen trade, St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong appears to have a spot in the team’s core moving forward. And Wong apparently has new admirer.

Bryant Gumbel, the former NBC Today host-turned host of HBO’s Real Sports, tells The Daily Beast that he’s a fan of the former first round pick from Hawaii.

“Even though I can’t stand the St. Louis Cardinals, I love watching the second baseman [Kolten] Wong. I love watching him. I think the guy does so many things so well that I like watching him,” Gumbel told the website’s Robert Silverman.

Gumbel also weighed in on the involvement in student protests by the University of Missouri football team, saying that basketball will be the place where college athletes manage to flex their muscle off the field of play.
