School bus, tractor trailer swept into pond in Mascoutah

MASCOUTAH, IL (KTVI) – A school bus and a tractor trailer were swept into a retention pond in the Mascoutah area late Monday afternoon.

The incident took place on Highway 161 at N. County Road, south of Scott Air Force Base.

Sixteen people were on the bus, which included 12 students and four adults. People at the scene tell Fox 2's Chris Higgins the students were members of the Mount Vernon High School girls' basketball team.

The Mascoutah and Belleville fire departments rescued the students and bus driver by 6:40 p.m. No injuries were reported.
