Meramec river crests in Valley Park Thursday morning

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Residents of Valley Park are waiting with bated breath Thursday morning. forecasters expect the Meramec river to crest. The crest is expected to come at 6am at 44.2 feet. The Mayor says he is still very confident that the levee will hold.

The lower parts of Valley Park are pretty much a ghost town Thursday morning. The Mayor ordered mandatory evacuations of the area of Wednesday morning. Waking up away from their homes this morning people are just crossing their fingers that their houses make it through today.

Police are keeping people away from the levee and lower parts of Valley Park to make sure no one interferes with the integrity of the barrier. The Mayor says the Army Corps of Engineers is pleased with the stability of the levee and city leaders are confident it will hold.

Last night workers added to the top of the flood fall and business owners finished sandbagging around theirs shops.
