CREVE COEUR, MO (KTVI)- The approaching snow means road crews will be gearing up to battle what will be our first real substantial winter storm of the season.

A MoDOT spokesperson says MoDOT will be at full staff with workers pulling 12 hour shifts as today unfolds and the storm approaches. 'Full staff' means 200 trucks will be out on the roads along with a little over 400 workers.

That MoDOT spokesperson also tells us crews will not be pre-treating roads.  The cold temperatures are causing concerns about liquids put on the roads freezing up. FOX 2 is told MoDOT crews were not out overnight doing any storm preps.

Joe Monroe from IDOT tells us his crews will do some selective pre-treatment of high traffic roadways with a hot salt brine calcium chloride mix.

Similar to MoDOT, IDOT crews were not out overnight.

Monroe says his crews will also be working 12 hour shifts and he will make staffing decisions about 11am this morning.
