MASCOUTAH, IL (KTVI)-  An arrest has been made in the robbery of a Mascoutah gas station earlier this week.  On January 20, around 2:15am, a robbery occurred at the Moto Mart in the 300 block of East Main Street in Mascoutah. The suspect walked into the store, displayed a large knife, and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect ran away on foot.

The suspect was wearing a brown coat with a ski mask. After news of the robbery was broadcast on local media, Mascoutah police got a call from someone who recognized some of the clothing the suspect was wearing. That tip led them to a home in Shiloh, IL, where they discovered more evidence.

On Thursday, Mascoutah police assisted by Belleville officers arrested Malcolm I. Schwentker, 20,  in the 100 block of East Main Street in Belleville. A knife was recovered, but no money from the robbery was recovered during the investigation.

On Friday, Schwentker was charged with one count of Armed Robbery. Bond has been set at $150,000. He is being held at the St. Clair County Jail
