IDOT worker and driver struck near I-64 in Washington Park

WASHINGTON PARK, IL (KTVI) - An IDOT worker and a stranded motorist have been rushed to the hospital after being hit. The accident happen here near Interstate 64 and ROUTE 111. They were struck by a passing vehicle.

According to police the accident happened around 2pm. The IDOT worker was responding to a call to assist a stranded motorist whose car was in a ditch. Investigators say both the IDOT worker and the motorist were standing outside the the disabled vehicle.

A vehicle driving on the ramp lost control and hit both the IDOT worker and the stranded motorist.

The 52-year-old male IDOT worker and the 39-year-old motorist were transported to an area hospital were they are listed in serious condition . The driver will be cited.

Illinois State Police believe weather played a role in the crash.
