Police are checking reports that two teenagers were shot Friday morning at Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona, Glendale police Officer Tracey Breeden told reporters.

The school is closed while police investigate a crime scene in a patio area near the main building, Breeden said. The situation has stabilized and students are in no further danger, she said.

“The incident was isolated. The school and neighborhood are safe,” Glendale police said on Twitter.

Police received a call about a shooting at the school shortly before 8 a.m., Breeden said.

Independence High School opened in 1977 and is part of the Glendale Union High School District. More than 2,000 students are enrolled.

Glendale is a city of about 230,000 residents just northwest of Phoenix.
