MACOUPIN COUNTY, IL (KTVI)- The Major Case Squad has been activated after human remains were found in Macoupin County, Illinois, north of Bunker Hill. According to the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, children playing in the area of Illinois Route 159 near Prairie Dell Road made the discovery and told their parents, who called police.

Evidence at the scene leads investigators to believe  that the victim died as a result of a homicide. The identity of the victim is unknown, but early indications are that the body is that of a male.  In Spring 2014, the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a missing person, Joseph Wilson, 24 at the time,  in the area just north of where the skeletal remains were discovered.    Investigators are considering that possibility that the remains are those of Wilson.
