SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - The winds are still howling and crews are still scrambling, trying to clean up the mess that began about 7 am Wednesday morning when power poles snapped lines and one of the areas busiest highways to close.

From Bommarito Automotive SkyFox you can see what the worst of it looked like.  Interstate 270 had to be closed because some of those same power lines fell onto the highway.  For close to seven hours cars just sat.  We spoke to one woman who eventually ran out of gas and was only rescued by a Good Samaritan who had a gas can with extra fuel.

Meanwhile on the ground Dougherty Ferry remains closed even though the highway has been cleared. Ramps on and off 270 are shut down as well.  Also, due to a power outage, much of Des Peres hospital has been closed all day, creating quite a problem for patients who fought their way through the morning rush to get here.
