ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - The intense overnight and Wednesday morning snowstorm brought out a massive response from MoDOT crews.

MoDOT brought in crews starting at midnight for the storm. By 2 a.m., they were at full staff with more than 200 plows on the roads.

For a while, they used the gang plow strategy – with a line of trucks plowing one area because the snow was coming down so quickly. There are still some slick spots around now but earlier there were many more.

Mark Croarkin, MoDOT’s District Maintenance Engineer, said even with the intensity of the storm this morning in some areas all of the major highways are in good shape at this point. He thinks the evening commute should be fine when it comes to road conditions.

Croarkin plans to stick with full crews in many areas until early in the afternoon, then he plans to start cutting back and winding down the response to this storm.
