WEST ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - Heavy, wet snow and wind gusts over 40 mph led to not only travel troubles early Wednesday but also power troubles as thousands of people spent the day without electricity.

One of those families left without power all day is the Warden family of Creve Coeur. The Wardens say they've been in the dark since 4:00 Wednesday morning and are still without electricity as of early evening.

Around midday, Ameren Missouri reported over 23,000 customers around the St. Louis area without power. That number has steadily dropped off through the day with the latest report just over 9,000 customers around 6:00 Wednesday evening. Many of these customers are in or around West County.

Ameren Missouri reports over 800 workers are out working around the clock to bring back power to these remaining communities.
