Kolten Wong agrees to 5 year Cardinals contract extension

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The Cardinals have announced a contract extension for Kolten Wong. The second baseman has agreed to a 5 year contract with a club option for a sixth year.

The 25-year-old from Hawaii made his MLB debut in 2013 when Manager Mike Matheny added him to the postseason roster. He went on to win the National League Division Series, National League Championship Series. Boston won the World Series that year.

The Cardinals moved Matt Carpenter to third base after trading World Series MVP third baseman David Freese. Wong started at second base during spring training in 2014. He was instrumental in the Cards postseason in 2014 and 2015.
