PINE LAWN, Mo. (AP) _ A small St. Louis-area police department may soon disband.

Pine Lawn alderman Chester Brown told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the department may be taken over by the North County Police Cooperative. Brown says a decision could come soon.

The police cooperative started last summer in another small north St. Louis County town, Vinita Park. It also patrols Wellston, after that city disbanded its police department, and Vinita Terrace. It took over patrol of Charlack in October.

Pine Lawn’s former mayor, Sylvester Caldwell, was sentenced to prison last summer on corruption charges. A former police lieutenant, Steven Blakeney, was found guilty in January of conspiring with others to falsely arrest a mayoral candidate.
