Cardinals Final Workout before Season Opener in Pittsburgh, Pena Lands on DL

It was an eventful for Saturday for the Cardinals in Pittsburgh, one day before their season opening game on Sunday against the Pirates. The team announced after their Noon workout that backup catcher Brayan Pena will need knee surgery. Pena was injured slipping in a wet, slick dugout in Viera, Florida where the Cardinals were playing a Spring Training game against the Washington Nationals. Pena has a loose body in his left knee that needs surgical attention. The Cardinals recalled catcher Eric Fryer from Memphis to take Pena's place as the backup to starting catcher Yadier Molina.
