ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - What would opening day be without Cardinal nation.

The fans make opening day feel like an unofficially holiday through downtown.

FOX 2’s Patrick Clark spent the day in downtown St. Louis with fans getting their reaction on opening day.

Cardinals opening day and most fans I talked to all agree it feels like a national holiday.

This is the 10-year anniversary for Busch Stadium three and the pre-game celebration to honor the 2006 world champions.

But inside and outside Ballpark Village and around the stadium a little rain wasn't going to dampen any spirits in St. Louis.

Whether it's a $5 golf ball or a $65 sweatshirt, fans were ready to get their hands on some cards merchandise, and from the pre-game pep rally where you could grab a free sweat wristband to the sea of Cardinal red outside the stadium.

You'd have thought it was a long cold winter as fans were more than ready for this day, pulling out all the appropriate Redbirds related clothing items.

And when they opened the gates, fans were ready to seize the day.

I tweeted about hearing that first snare drum hit and the familiar sounds of Celebration from Kool and the Gang and suddenly everything seemed right in the world.
