ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill had stinging criticism for the Labor Department over reports of crime at Job Corps centers.

Senator McCaskill says safety and security problems at Job Corps centers are exposing students to potential harm.

She points to the fatal shooting of a student at a St. Louis Job Corps center in April of 2015.  McCaskill says the St. Louis facility isn`t alone in dealing with criminal behavior.  She says in many cases crime goes unaddressed by the contractors hired by the Labor Department to operate the job centers

McCaskill says there are multiple success stories from Job Corps centers providing job training for disadvantaged children and young adults, but she is demanding the Labor Department improve its oversight of contractors hired by the government to operate the centers.
