NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - A Florissant family is mourning the death of their daughter after a deadly accident over the weekend. The girl was riding in a car with four other teens when she was killed.
Booker Wade had been helping his daughter plan a trip to New York this summer to learn more about Broadway. Now he is planning her funeral.
17-year-old Lauryn Wade was a junior at Hazelwood East High School, a straight a student on the National Honor Society. She was a drama student and first chair violin in the school orchestra.
The accident happened yesterday afternoon on New Jamestown Road. Lauryn was driving a new car she got just a few days ago. St. Louis County Police say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and hit a tree. Four teenage friends in the car suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police say everyone was wearing a seat belt. Lauryn's father says his daughter was very responsible, and that it was out of character for her to speed or drive recklessly. He says he believes the hill on the road surprised her and she lost control of the car.
Funeral arrangements are still being planned. Booker Wade says his daughter's funeral will likely be Monday or Tuesday.
