BALLWIN, MO (KTVI) – The Parkway School District is playing host to families from Taiwan including many students.

A welcoming assembly was held for the delegation this morning at Claymont Elementary School in Ballwin. About 60 visitors from Taiwan, including 42 children, will be staying with 21 families from Claymont Elementary and Parkway West Middle School.

The Taiwan students are from the Starlight Academy and are here for a storytelling festival. The students will also be attending school at Claymont and West Middle.

The program is educational for both the Taiwanese and American families.

“I think it’s cool that they came all the way from across the world and they’re staying with these families. And they learned English. I think it’s really cool how they can speak it and speak two different languages,” said Emma Mahaffey, a fifth-grader at Claymont whose family is among those hosting the Taiwanese students and their families.

The Parkway District, including Emma’s family, also hosted Taiwanese students and families last year.
The group arrived last Friday and will stay for a week.
