WASHINGTON, MO (KTVI) – Police in Washington, Missouri have arrested two women accused of shoplifting approximately $400 worth of merchandise from a hospital gift store.

According to a police spokesperson, the theft happened May 1 at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

Detectives said surveillance video clearly shows one woman working to distract a volunteer clerk as the other conceals items in her pockets and purse.

The women, ages 47 and 60, returned for more on Thursday. By then, hospital security and police had uncovered their ruse and were waiting. Police showed up before the women left and arrested them outside the store.

Official charges are still pending.
