Carr Lane to perform in Annie Malone Parade Sunday, May 15th

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- The Annie Malone Parade is this coming weekend in downtown St. Louis. Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School will be one of over 180 units in this year`s parade with their outstanding bands and Drum Line from across the Midwest, floats, dance units, and clowns.

The school is recognized for its many awards and the students excel academically.

Drum Line Coordinator Reginald Phillips joined us on the 9 a.m. to tell us more.

According to, in 1886 a group by the name of the Women Temperance Union decided to take on the issue of how “colored orphans” were treated in the St. Louis Community.  In 1888 the “St. Louis Colored Orphans Home” was organized.

Annie Malone took over in 1919 as Board Chairman. She held that until 1943.

In 1920 she donated $10,000 as seed money to build the home which is currently located at 2612 Annie Malone Drive St. Louis, MO 63113.
