ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - We may just be hitting the tip of the iceberg when it comes to damage from Wednesday’s monster hail storm. St. Charles County residents were still reeling Friday as glass repair workers were being overrun and concerns grew about windshield inventories running low.

The Glass Doctor had 9 to 10 workers going non-stop, replacing 50 to 60 windshields per day. It seemed almost everyone in St. Charles County either got hit or knew someone who had.

There was hail up to baseball and softball-size. Even the quarter-sized stuff was enough to make Ken Simpson a victim.

“Sounded like a bunch of bullets going off in the background. Our daughter came downstairs, running to the basement, paranoid of the weather, told us. We looked out there and see it just pounded the vehicles, pounding the house,” he said.

“I can’t tell you how many cars we’ve done where it’s the front and the back (windshields),” said Michael Eby of The Glass Doctor. “Cars just sitting out in a parking lot – all in St. Charles, Wentzville, St. Peters, O’Fallon.”

His company alone had hundreds of victims needing new windshields with more calling by the minute.

“People that want it done, they have to act quickly. What’s happening is, is distributors are running out of inventory…don’t put it off, get on the phone, get it lined up,” Eby said.

Going through your insurance company could slow down the process, he said.

The average replacement cost is around $325. If your deductible is $500 or more, you don't have a claim anyway.
