City council accepts resignation of Columbia, IL police chief

COLUMBIA, IL KTVI- The embattled Columbia, Illinois police chief is out.  The Republic Times reports that Chief Joe Edwards’ resignation was officially accepted by the city council Monday night.  Edwards has been on paid administrative leave since February after the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department began investigating a “domestic matter” involving Edwards and his family as part of divorce proceedings.

The resignation is effective of April 30, 2016. Deputy Chief of Police Jerry Paul has been approved at the new police chief.
