(KTVI) – A takeover could merge two of the world’s largest seed and pesticide companies.

After initially saying talk of a takeover of Creve Coeur based Monsanto was wild speculation, the company confirmed Wednesday night it has received what it calls an unsolicited, non binding bid from Bayer.

Monsanto says there is no guarantee anything will come of the bid.

If the deal were to happen, the Wall Street Journal reports the combined companies would reach $67 billion in annual sales as the world’s largest seed and crop chemical company.
