ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – For Deacon Billings, it’s the last week of school; but the first day with his new hand.
Deacon’s parents, Katlyn and Dustin, said he was born without a hand and has grown up adapting to his circumstances.
Deacon’s new plastic hand was fashioned just down the hall. It was created on a 3D printer by Staunton High School students Jaden Riley and Nicholas Weber.
The plans for the new hand were downloaded to a computer, where a plastic filament was heated into shape.
A prosthetic limb can cost $30,000 to $40,000; but these Staunton Bulldogs did this for under $100.
